New Years Day
2001
We've gotten
used to Winter milder than this one has been. It was 7º F
when 11 hardy cyclists left Ft. Meigs parking lot for Bowling Green at
9:00 a.m. The South breeze didn't help matters much, nor did the expanses
of snow-glazed pavement on Hull Prairie Road. All but two of the folks
were on road bikes. The two of us who drove our cars out got to
enjoy the frost-encrusted trees and bright snow from the warmth of our
micro-climates.
Karen McKee
had breakfast ready in Bowling Green. By the time the guys headed home the
temperature had risen to a reasonable 22º, and the wind, of course, had
shifted to the NW. (Click the thumbnails below for enlargements in a
second window.)
Dave
and Teresa Komives hosted the afternoon potluck. A near capacity crowd brought
the usual selection of the cooks' best (the food was super-fine!) A large
contingent of kids seemed to entertain themselves just fine, stimulated by
the crowd, the food and the dog. Most of them avoided getting stepped on.
The sledding was great, but best, as usual, was the conversation.
We just happen to have a record of what went on in
1999, along with some photos, below.
New Years 1999
Bright sun, a 20 mph breeze out of the North, 13 deg. F.; 13
stalwart Breakfast Club riders headed south to BG at 9:00 from Ft. Meigs. The 18 mile trip
caused only a few frosty fingers and toes, and Karen McKee's breakfast more than made up
for that. We cheated on the return trip - motor-pacing behind Pres. Sherry Simon's van.
The afternoon potluck at the Barnes's lasted until late, what
with good food and drink and talk and bowl games. Folks brought a dish to
pass and fluids of choice. Among other news circulating among the
crowd was the engagement of Joyce Payne and Jim Donaldson.
