It was a dark and stormy night….but before that, there was one heck of an Omnium!
Thirty plus riders showed up for a busy racing night. Karen McKee kept things interesting by having the criterium an unknown number of laps. That coupled with two primes allowed the race director to inflict maximum pain. One lap after the first prime, Matt Thourot came through to win the second as well. Jim Regan was the only other rider to pick up one of the $5 Barry’s Bagels gift certificates. The win- and- out allowed the faster racers to cool down before the miss-and-out. Many people liked the fact that Karen pulled anyone not in the main bunch after the first pass on the miss-and-out. That kept the number of laps reasonable and scoring cleaner. It really started to cool down before the flying one lap time trial. Just in time to beat the rain and lightning. Andrew Frye and friend Courtney cheered the races on before heading out to New Jersey to race. Courtney finished 10th in the NCAA race in Colorado. BW3’s afterward proved very entertaining for MVW members as we placed 2nd in the ‘Name that tune…’ competition. Jim Sarks picked up all the sprint points with a tremendous showing. Scott Main was in no mood to play so the MC tagged him ‘the grumpy old wheelman’! [Story and photos by Mike Iannone.]
