The last
regular club race of the season would have been calm and low-key if it were not
for a set of eager folks who wanted to make real work out of it. Club Race
Director Matt Thourot had encouraged a good turnout for the race; he said had a
secret weapon and was ready to whip all comers. The secret weapon was a bike
patched up with all kinds of side panels, etc., for reduced wind resistance.
(Probably increased the drag!) He got away with it since there was no
protest for this obvious infraction of the rule book - he would have won in any
case, Jon Card not being at the race. (Vet David Teall was seen shaking his
head, whether over the tricked-out bike or Matt's wardrobe.) And would you
believe it, our camera had no data card; we got no photos. But click
the photo to see Gerry's movie.
Senior Matt Thourot was first, Master Pio Apostoli second, Vet Jim Donaldson fourth, Junior Andy Pauken 11th. Former President Sherry Simon turned up for her first race in a long time, she was a second to triathlete Lavinia Raffoul.
21 riders trekked to El Vaquero's for dinner and war stories.
