Club Races 2004
Race 8, June 10

The Lost Nations course, near Pittsford, MI, is in the middle of nowhere, way to hell-and-gone northwest of us, more than an hour's drive even using the turnpike. The Rev. Brian Wonn suggested the course some years ago; folks like to ride it. (It has some hills, nice country scenery and few cars.) It rained all day Thursday, often heavy rain; who in their right mind would schlepp all the way up to nowhere in hopes of, maybe, a race happening? Bob Vidra and his race staff got there - it's the rule anyhow - if you're scheduled to work a race you get there, never mind the weather. 21 riders turned up as well.

Other than some minor sprinkles, the rain had quit. During three 12-mile loops the pack stayed pretty much together. The usual mind games had been going on up front when the last hill reared up in the gloom ahead. Master Steve Clark left the rest behind (see the photo). Vet Dave Komives was second, to the chagrin of Mike Iannone who was on Dave's wheel. Junior Corey Brinkman was ninth overall - incredible!

It was about 9:30 when we reached Loma Linda's. The margaritas were fine.
