At 5:55 pm
there were about 10 folks sitting patiently in their cars waiting for the rain
to stop. Gary Tarsha was wet from sweat (not rain) when I arrived
working hard in humid 78+ temps to remove wet gravel and sand from the
curves. By 6:15 there were roughly 25 folks present with lightening none
too far away. The rain had stopped but calls to people watching the
radar indicated a line of storms very close by, not to mention the tornado
warnings. Added concerns about the safetly of the course with the
wet pavement and sand on all the curves and corners led to Gary's decision to
call the race. Within minutes the torrential downpours hit and vehicles
were driving away...to E.V.'s?? Workers signed up in advance that
show up to help receive points for their efforts.
