There was enough west wind to make
leg four hard work, but it was a glorious night to race. A fast pace and
repeat sallies off the front made for an especially fun race. The bright
beige carpets of freshly cut wheat fields framed dark green stands of
corn under a brilliant blue sky; the workers enjoyed the view, but
riders were too busy to care about scenery.
Jeff Smith led out Steve Clark and
Mark Armstrong for the one sprint (!) Vet Mark Armstrong was first,
Master Tony Gwin third, Senior Chris Brinkman fifth and Rachel Steele
eighth.
