MAUMEE VALLEY WHEELMEN

NEWSLETTER

NUMBER I

At the general membership meeting on August 31, quite a few things were accomplished. First of all, we are now a formal organization. We have a checking account under Maumee Valley Wheelmen with the four officers as signatures (Rita Gleason, president; Skip Adelphia, Vice President, Mark Tyson, Secretary; Mike Meister, Treasurer), we are affiliated with Amateur Bicycling League of America (for all of you racers), and are on the mailing lists for League of American Wheelmen (for the tourers). Formal affiliation with L.A.W. should be forthcoming soon.

In order to keep our affiliation, however, it is necessary to have so many of our club members, members of each organization. It is strongly urged that you join one or the other of the groups (L.A.W. or A.B.L.A.) as soon as possible. L.A.W. is a national clearing house of touring information and does legal work in favor of bicycling. AJ3L of A is the governing body of bicycle racing in the United States. Enclosed is an application for L.A.W. Write or call Mark Tyson for an application for A.B.L. Please let me know when you apply for either group so that I may have a record for affiliation purposes. Rick Oberle and Jim Menshing, 1975 Kenosha Track Program

Dues are now mandatory for M.V.W. membership. They've been set at 50 cents per month or $6.00 per year due on January first of each year. This means that if you join in the middle of the year, you pay dues at the rate of 50 cents per month. Membership renewal is $6.00.. per year due on January first of each year. (This amount was tentatively set to pay for the cost of printing and postage, and to have a small working capital available for various events.) For this coming year, however, if you register before October first, you will receive an extra three, months of mem- bership. Dues from 10-1-72 to 1-1-74 will only be $6.00. Please get your appli- cation in to me before October first. We need the money for the kitty.

A Newsletter similar to this will be sent out to all registered members and a few selected bike shops on or near the first of each month. It should contain a recap of last month's events, local coming attractions, and racing and touring events in this section of the U.S. Contributions are welcome. Mark Tyson will be covering the racing aspect and I'll be handling the touring. Please direct your questions and information to the appropriate person.

A roster will be printed up and mailed every six months,Mark Tyson - 197? on or around February first and July first. A copy can usually be obtained, however, in between these times Membership will be open to any persons completing membership application and paying the appropriate amount of dues. Membership cards will be issued as soon as they are printed up to each member paying dues and completing membership application. Activities for September are rides at 6:30 p.m. at Skip Adelphia's, 408 N. River Road in Waterville every Wednesday evening. The biggie, of course, is the Hell Century Run. Afterwards, at 9:00 p.m.. Skip's place will be the scene of a big blow-out (and not tires this time, Mark). Bring your own bottle and chips and come tired from a hard day's work.

The racers work out constantly but have no set schedule. Each ride is decided upon at the previous ride. Scheduling must remain flexible for them so as to accommodate varying work and race schedules. If you're interested in training with them or even occasionally working out hard with them contact either Chuck Connor, 874-7772, or Mark Tyson, 352-4645 late in the evenings.

Also - go .see your fellow members when they officially race! Call Chuck and Mark for who will be where and when. There is often space in the cars for extra people who want to go along. ...
