The Breakfast Club

dot_clear.gif (42 bytes)Every Saturday and Sunday morning, and most holidays, an informal ride forms at Ft. Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio. There are 3 groups (A, B, C) with varying paces. Year around, and year after year, the group rides out 16 miles to Grand Rapids, Ohio for breakfast at Couzins Restaurant. The "A" ride down is usually fast-paced (more like go for broke; 25mph+, sustained). After breakfast some turn around and head home. Others head out for more mileage at a much more reasonable pace. Favorite long-haul routes in open countryside can bring riders home with 50-100 miles total.  Many of the routes can be found on www.mapmyride.com.

Rides start at 8:00 a.m. for the "A" group beginning April 25, until the time change in the fall.

Start time is 9:00 a.m. for the "A" group during the fall, winter.

If you are coming to this ride for the first time, you should plan to ride with an early group (B or C).

The "B" group starts 15 minutes before the "A" group.

The "C" group starts 30 minutes before the "A" group.

Riding Speed/Pace for each group:

A Group - ranges from 20-30+mph, average 25mph

B Group - ranges from 16-25mph, average 20mph

C Group - ranges from 12-22mph, average 18mph

You are likely to get some help if you are a novice at paceline riding or are struggling to keep up with the group.  We have a loose Escort Program for these rides.  Expect to find at least a couple of more experienced riders, who should have information about routes this informal group might take, and who can offer the novice rider pointers on etiquette and skills. Check out our new Mentors program.  This part of the country can be very windy most of the year, so learning how to ride in the wind is critical, this would be a good question to ask a local.

dot_clear.gif (42 bytes)The ride happens year around, never mind the weather. Serious rain at the start will keep most home, as will icy roads in winter or temperatures less than 15 degrees F.
